What is the Caribbean?

One of the most beautiful regions in the western hemisphere is the Caribbean. It consists of Caribbean Sea (area of about 2,754,000 km² (1,063,000 square miles), its islands and the surrounding coasts.

The Caribbean is situated north and west of South America, southeast of Northern America, east of Central America. The Caribbean contains over 7,000 islands, islets (small islands—some as small as basketball courts), reefs, and cayes (aka: keys) (low island consisting mostly of sand or coral).

These beautiful land forms dot the Caribbean to form some of the most amazing white sand beaches in the world.  Temperatures average in the mid 80's year-round in most of the Caribbean.

The Caribbean is known for its captivating turqoise-blue water. Depending on where in the Caribbean you are, the water will vary in color. This is due to the sand and coral found in the region.
